Janae Dean: Founder / Director
Janae K. Dean has over 25 years of experience as a theater director. She is the owner of Children's Creations and has effectively combined her love for children and the arts and has made a tremendous impact in the lives of thousands of children in the greater Grand Rapids community.
Janae realizes that each child is unique in his or her own way and she has made it her purpose to identify those specific gifts in children and build upon their individuality through the medium of theater.
From the humble beginning days of putting on plays in the homes of the children and parents to productions in large performing halls, Children's Creations is continuing its operations and changing the course of lives for many children in our community. Janae says, "I believe that all children should be given an opportunity to express their creativity in an environment where they feel safe and comfortable."
Her productions include: Pilgrim's Progress, The Stranger of Christmas, When Heaven Came Down, Love Must Win, Cool in The Furnace, Two Nights Before Christmas, Wizard of Oz, Beauty & the Beast, Cinderella, Heidi, The Magic of Mrs. Piggle Wiggle, Driving Miss Daisy, Little House On The Prairie, Peter Pan, Johnny Appleseed, The Lion, Witch & Wardrobe, Daddy I'm Hungry, Charlotte's Webb, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Its A Wonderful Life, Trail of Blood, The Hiding Place, You Can't Take it With You, Raggedy Ann & Andy, Salute to America, Folk Tales for Fun, Oliver Twist, Aesop's Funny Fables and many others.
Additionally her community involvement includes teaching communications and debate classes at The Potter's House School, (an inner-city Christian school located in the Roosevelt Park area). Janae directs the annual school play as well. Janae is extremely gifted in casting on the stage as well as the big screen. Along with her many accomplishments, she was a casting director for Jim Hanon, Director of the recent film "End of the Spear."
In addition to her gifts in theater, Janae is a playwright and also well versed in photography, acting, music producing and songwriting. In 2002 Janae's song "A Thousand Times" performed by her husband and renown recording artist Wayburn Dean, was #1 in Jamaica for a total of 6 months consecutively. Released on March 2, 2006, her composition "Gotta Forgive Them" topped the national Inspo charts at #3. Other songs written by Janae that received national acclaim are "Needed" #8 in the nation in 2007 and "Peace Child" which also received a #1 bidding.
Janae has carefully crafted and developed a comprehensive program that includes principles and techniques that help children to see their own creative skills and abilities. Even children with special learning styles are welcome. Janae is committed and will continue her efforts in helping to develop the complete child through the arts. Most of all Janae is a mother of six and knows how children want and need to be treated.
Kurtis Fowler: Business Administrator / Theater Director
Kurtis Fowler has grown up in the theatre and has been performing since he was three. He has starred in many roles and was recently honored with a Grand Award at the collegiate level for his leading role in "The Dining Room" by Neil Simon. He has been awarded by many collegiate organizations along with the University of Michigan, the University of Chicago, and Grand Valley State University for his portrayal of international policy in Model United Nations debates. Kurtis has been instrumental in the growth and continued development of Children's Creations and joined the team full time in the fall of 2006. He has performed with Children's Creations in many productions. His credits include: The Wizard of Oz (Scarecrow, The Wizard, Mayor of Munchkin City), It's a Wonderful Life (Mr. Potter), Little House on the Prairie (Charles, Mr. Edwards), Two Nights Before Christmas (Ronald R. Robot) Beauty and the Beast (Beast), The Adventures of Johnny Appleseed (Grandfather), The Magic of Mrs. Piggle Wiggle (Lead Male) and many productions throughout his academic career.
Currently, Kurtis is the Business Administrator and leading the expansion directives for the company. Kurtis has a unique talent of combining his creative skills with sharp business acumen. Children’s Creations is proud to have Kurtis aboard and will continue to benefit greatly from his intense devotion and business sense.
